Entry 10

One of the Barons players getting arrested! How the other players found out is when Biddy and Piper got to the ballpark they noticed some of the players weren’t there. Just before the game started Sam Williams showed up and told Piper that Herman Bell got arrested. Sam only knew Herman Bell got arrested because he was buying a newspaper and he turned around and saw 2 cops putting Herman in the back of a police car. But Sam didn’t know why He got arrested.

After Piper told Biddy to go get Charlie Biddy did and Charlie asked piper what he wanted and Piper told him to start up the bus. So he did and Biddy and Piper went into town with Charlie driving them. They went to the sheriff’s office and bailed him out, but it was twenty dollars Herman had a towel over his eye. Biddy asked how it happened and then he said he slipped on the way inside as he looked at the sheriff.

Entry 9

The Barons played Cleveland and beat sad Sam Jones. After that that the whole team came together and hugged, Biddy said it was a good feeling. What he thought felt best is they played in front of all of their fans and won. Bobby Robinson was mad though, because he didn’t get to play any games for the past 2 months. Bobby Robinson asked Piper why he didn’t get to play and Piper just said “you will play in the Baltimore Elite Giants game.”  Bobby was actually satisfied with that because his brother was the catcher for that team.

The Barons are going to play an amazing game against Cleveland but this time it was a doubleheader. Before the game Biddy went out on the field and caught a few balls. Biddy thought it was a good feeling also that the grass is really green there in Rockwood. Biddy hated that there wasn’t a big crowd but all their heart and spirit made up for it. The Barons won both games and Powell the pitcher for the Barons was pitching like an all-star those games.

Entry 8

Outfielders are always trying to spike people. What a spike means is to try to hit someone with the ball. According to Biddy that’s because they don’t play on the bases and they don’t know what it’s like to have a spike coming toward your face! When Biddy had batting trouble he asked Piper if he was ever afraid of batting and he said “I don't mind having a few knots on the side of my head because it made combing my hair interesting.” Biddy was thinking that he really didn’t need to hear that but it helped him with his problems because he was thinking it must not have hurt as bad as he thought if Piper liked getting hit. After that they had to go to a nonleague game against the Harlem globetrotters and Joe Bankhead was pitching.

Piper said that the barons were going to knock him from Birmingham all the way to Seattle, Washington. What I am saying there is they are going to hit the ball really far with his bad pitches.  Then make him wish he was playing for the house of David. The house of David was a white team. They all wore beards but they could play ball. The reason he sad that is because Joe Bankhead is one of the worst pitchers ever.  Piper told Biddy he didn't like playing against any team that did anything different because it wasn’t pure ball. His definition of pure ball is no weighted bats and no pills.

Entry 7

What I read about today is biddy playing in a playoff game. The barons also won against the best eastern players. Then one of the best teams played against the barons and lost, biddy said he liked them because they clowned around a lot and weren’t so serious. Then when he was in another playoff game he struck out and missed and easy pop up. So piper the manager took biddy out for the rest of the game. Then they went to a nice restaurant and got some hamburgers, Noodles and milk shake.

Entry 6

Satchel Paige

What I read about today is Biddy meeting a very good baseball player named Satch. He has a legendary pitch called a hesitation. One of the players on the Barons tried to do the pitch and let 4 people score and hurt some of them. Then after that game they went to Chicago and some white people surprisingly gave them mashed potatoes and potato salad also some fried chicken. Then since they weren’t hungry they played a great game and scored a lot of points.

Entry 5

What I read about today is that the Birmingham Barons have won the first half of the season games. Then they played the Houston Clowns and beat them, when they finished that game they had to go to Memphis. Then they played against Morehouse, Biddy thought that they were very smart and he got to play that game but he made a mistake. Morehouse was going to have cheerleaders from Spellman but when they showed up they looked to dressy. Biddy called his mama and told her about Morehouse and he should apply. But he said he didn’t have money because going to college takes money.
